The priest lifts an eyebrow toward Boris questioningly, then reconsiders his words and chuckles in spite of himself.  "Oh, right... indeed."  Looking at Bacchius, he says "That is in no way to be taken literally."

Rhurac laughed and visualized the minotaur headbutting everyone. "Even with dangers lurking all about, you still keep a sense of humor, that is a good quality!"

Bacchius Snorts...

Hmmph....  I don't get it.  I must have left my sense of humor back with the last human I devoured.  Snort!

Boris laughs even harder at the minotaur's response. Ha...well said. Makes me glad I'm an elf.

Bacchius eyes Rhurarc finding it extremely difficult to judge the humans concept of comedy.  He salivates just a little bit as he ponders the idea.

OOC: Doh! I missed the joke. lol. I'd say scratch that but its time for the guide to play the dumb blonde.

Rhuarc stopped laughing... "Wait... I am human. I must have left my intelligence with the last cow I ate." He said crossing his arms, smiling up at the minotaur.

At this point, Addreddyn laughed and threw his right hand over his eyes as he shook his head.

"Ok, now that we've gotten that out of our system, what about this idea that Rhurac had.  Take the wheels off the wagon and let the camels drag the wagon like a sled.  With a wider base, it's not likely to be sucked down into the sand.  The camels themselves are used to walking through this terrain, although they aren't so used to bearing such a load.  So we might need to make sure all of us are on foot who can afford to be and tie the extra camels to the front of the wagons.  If we get to a particularly soft spot where the camels are having difficulty, I can cast strength on them to help boost their pulling power.  I can offer Rhurac several guidance spells which will help him choose the best path.  Can anyone see a problem with this plan?"  Looking over to Rhurac, he asked, "How far can we expect this soft sand to stretch before we can return the wheels to the wagons?"

"Normally slipsand and the such are only a few feet across, normally one could jump across a patch of it. What I saw stretched as far as I could see and that is not normal. I do not know if the Gods have made this way so treacherous for a reason or if the desert is rebelling against man being here. I am afraid Priest of the Blue Lady that I cannot answer your question at this point accurately."

"Aye, I do. We stay off the path until the slipsand is gone and we will be fine. The camels can take the deeper sand and with the wagons on skids they will glide across the surface. Casting a strength spell on them couldn't hurt either. I mean they're not walking through dunes but the sand will cover their hooves easily just off the path. I will continue to scout ahead of course and look for any further dangers." Rhurac answered, it wasn't the first time he had to lead people across the desert by far but this time he knew it was more important than any other and knew they didn't have time to just waste.

"I will run farther ahead while your group prepares the wagons and see if I cannot glean and further information about the path farther ahead." Rhurac then prepared himself for a run, securing his items to his person and drawing the veil that cover his nose and mouth and donning his wrap to cover his head, only his piercing blue eyes were visible. When the Priest to the Blue Lady acknowledged what he said, he was gone.

"Wait Rhurac... before you rush off.  I don't want you too far ahead that if something happens to you we won't be there to help you.  Maybe if you tie a length of rope around your waist, say ten or twenty feet, and just let it drag behind you.  That way, if you do get swallowed up by some of that sand, we'll still be able to pull you out even if we get there after your head has gone under." He folded his arms and tapped a finger to his chin, then asked, "You any good at holding your breath?"

After Rhurac ran off to do his thing, Addreddyn instructed the others, "Ok, let's lighten the wagons and get those wheels off."

OOC I will need you to be real specific on what you are doing…so far you are simply taking the wheels off the wagon and hooking up all the camel to it?  Just for clarification when I say ‘wagon’ am envisioning covered wagon, little house on the prairie style, Iysoren will remove herself from the wagon? Everyone else walking?  What about the cart?  Are you tossing anything?

Iysoren would be out of the wagon and digging clawed feet deep into the sand the moment the need for lightening the load was voiced.  Her sudden reaction was not because she was aware of the priest’s gestures, but because she was a noble draconian, a lightning draconian, blue dragon blood coursed through her veins and like them she too reveled in the warm desert terrain.  Iysoren had been silently waiting, hoping for the opportunity to escape the confines of the wagon an excuse to enjoy the desert, and this was perfect!  The evening sun began to beat down on the companions and they were just beginning to taste a fraction of the blistering heat they knew would assault their every sense the further into the desert they traveled.

The usually bitter draconian was put in such a pleasant mood by such an opportunity she even offered,”…I can carry some of the burden…not much I want to be able to shed the weight quickly should my strength be needed.  This I will do at least until the wagon is back on solid ground.”

Knowing it would take hours to backtrack, hours they did not have Iyroren’s reptilian tail flicked back and forth as she spoke,” We are already on an impossssible deadline, we should try Addreddyn’s suggestion.” She was torn, and were it not her ‘life’s work’ at stake the noble draconian would have never turned down the opportunity to rid the world of her evil counterparts, even if it meant scaling all Ice Reach!

The Minotaur helps with as much of the heavy lifting as he can and supports any decision the party makes as long as Iysoren gives her support.

He wondered if the cow comment Rhuarc made was directed to him.  He had heard Minotaur meat did taste like cow.  Bacchius loved steak and roast.  He thought seriously of killing a female Minotaur and roasting her on a spit.  It might be tastey...  Then again, it had been so long since he had tasted human flesh.  More like pork...

Bacchius was getting hungry!

We should break for dinner after we finish with this.  Snort!  I could eat a camel!

Boris eyes the Camel suspiciously as he dismounts.  Before heading to help the others he waves a warning finger at the beast.  You just do what you are supposed, and don't try anything to or I'll let the minotaur eat you.  With this useless warning out of his system he trudges up to the others, and lends a hand where he can.

OOC how far ahead does Rhurac plan on going?  The slipsand is not very deep where he tested it at, but I presumed he would not just trot over it without any precautions I need to know if he is taking any and if so what is he doing.  So I need to know how far in the front he is, and what he's doing to insure the safety of the wagon, who is behind him etc, are you fanning out, single file?  For those not familiar with slipsand it is a dry powdery sand, caused from a lack of moisture kinda the opposite of quicksand.  The movement of the party will kick up a lot of dust.  The party will be able to move through it easily the only problem is they can't see beneath it.

As Boris turns from threatening the camel he could swear her heard a mooing sound.  When the wildelf turns around the camel innocently shakes a fly from its muzzle, though it looked very much like it was shaking its head, no, wasn't me.

OOC sorry to be dragging this out but the slipsand in itself is an obstacle, a challenge and if I presume to much on your behalf then it sorta defeats its purpose.  Is that making sense?  I'm just starting to worry that I am not going about this in the right way.  Any 'constructive' advice would be appreciated.

OOC: Rhurac planned on skirting the whole thing and avoid the slipsand altogether. Go single file just off the path hence why putting the wagons on skids. When the path was clear again, pop the wheels back on and away they go.

It takes two hours to skirt around the slipsand that would have taken only a half hour tops were the companions able to keep straight upon the path.  The good news was that it worked, they didn’t have to waste eight hours backtracking nor face the dreaded variable of combat against the draconians.  However with the end in sight, maybe another hundred yards or so to go before they would be back on the packed sand of the path the camels begin to get skittish pulling on their tethers and bumping against one another.  Before anyone has time to process their discomfort two of them drop or rather are pulled to their knees!

As if cued by the terror stricken screeches of the camel clawed hands erupt from the sand narrowly missing the ankles of the desert guide.  The prepared cover and quick reflexes of Rhuarc save his eyes from the blinding grains of sand that just erupted around him.

Similar grey clawed hands shoot up out of the desert tearing at the flesh of two camels!  Rising from the sand are four stooped humanoid creatures that appear to be composed of a dark gray ash, through which rivulets of blood flow like exposed veins.  Their rounded mouths gape with terrible rows of sharp teeth, and claws look eager for fresh fleshy victims! The companions are still knee deep in sand two of the creatures are assaulting the camels and two more are attacking Rhuarc.

Addreddyn wastes no time closing the distance between him and the camels and draws his weapon. "You leave them alone!" he demands as he attacks.

Bacchius stands near Iysoren and draws his weapon in case the sandy devils intitial attack was a diversion.  His giant cow eyes dart from the sand beneath his hooves to the battle ahead.

Stay with me Iysoren.  If you wish for battle, Snort, I will lead you into the fray!

Seeing Addreddyn head for the camels Boris swears under his breath.  At the same moment he draws his new sword, and turns to greet his adversaries. Well well how unfortunate for you.  I may not like those camels, but I still need them.  I guess this means I have to kill you now.  Boris purposely positions himself near Addreddyn so that he may protect him.
